The Quiet War: Profiles of Women Facing Advanced Breast Cancer
Produced by Affinityfilms

The Quiet War is a documentary about five women facing metastatic breast cancer. Used as a source of information and resource for women facing a similar diagnosis, it is an incredibly inspiring film for patients, survivors, caregivers and anyone who has been touched by cancer. The film is divided into five stories, diverse in age, lifestyle, location, treatments, and how they have dealt with their disease:

  • Stefanie, who at 31, has started a non-profit organization in Los Angeles to bring attention to breast cancer in young women.
  • Lynnly, a 52-year-old artist and photographer from San Francisco, provides practical aspects of living with stage IV breast cancer.
  • Martha, a 42-year-old Alaska Native who has a spiritual take on life.
  • Lisa, 41, after being misdiagnosed for over a year and then given 30 days to live, she proves miracles do happen.
  • Pam, 60, an Episcopal priest sharing what “as good as it gets” means when undergoing treatment for this chronic but treatable disease.

In addition to the documentary-style stories, the DVD also offers expert advice from an oncologist, oncology social worker, a hospice director, and other patients who answer questions about when to go into hospice, treatment options, disease progression, and planning for the future. Twelve pages of downloadable resources are also included on the DVD.

Anyone facing advanced cancer will find a wealth of inspiration, information and honesty in The Quiet War.

The film is available through Affinityfilms at www.betweenus.org. Individual-use DVD costs $39.95 and multiple-use DVD, such as for support groups, costs $59.95; Hospital-use costs $99.95. For individuals who are on Medicaid/Medicare or are uninsured, special discounts may be applied.
