A Statement from my Mom
Raising my son has been an amazing privilege. But I-- like so many parents-- found myself rushing constantly. We were in the car running from Cub Scouts to soccer to choir and back to PTA - eating in the car, changing on the fly, communicating in snatches between phone calls and play dates. Suddenly I looked up and he was half-way to manhood. I know you know the feeling! So we are choosing to "embrace time" which is so precious and fleeting as brought home by a family tragedy this year.
I pondered this for several months, wondering what I could do to contribute to our global culture and help shape my son's world view at the same time. Time during one's childhood is never fully savored. This is why we have taken the incredible life-changing steps of selling our home, our car, and storing whatever possessions we have not loaned out or given away- and homeschooling as we explore the amazing world. We are not rich or magically endowed with limitless funds. We have made a decision to make the necessary sacrifices to achieve this special time together. We are pacifists and celebrate cultural differences. It is both a scary --and exhilarating-- time for us.
